Kia ora everyone. Rob here.
We hosted a Matariki Mid-Winter BBQ last Thursday. One of the things I love about our BBQ events is the way community works together to make it work. We’re a small team so people help us prepare the food, out out chairs, run the BBQ, pack and clean up. We don’t run the event for the community; we run it with the community.

No one can build a community for us. It always has to be a co-operative endeavour. This means that we all have a role to play. As a Community House our role is to facilitate community but we can’t do it alone. We need the wider community to play their part in their own neighbourhoods. We also need community to be supporters of us.
Volunteers are crucial. There’s no Community Garden without volunteer gardeners; no kai distribution, no cafe, no events without volunteers. Volunteers put the heart into our activities. If you have some time, get in touch.
Another way you can help us is to become a financial supporter. We’re a registered charity so you’ll get some of it back! If you don’t have time to spare but you have a few dollars then putting that into your local community house is a very worthwhile thing to do, especially in our tight funding environment. If you want to follow that up here are the details: SEKCA, 03-1355-0637160-00.
We appreciate you all. Even reading this blog is an act of giving to us. Keep being great neighbours and when we do, we make life a little bit better for us all.
Ngaa mihi nui
Rob
